The gardos channel appears partly involved in the selective trapping and destruction of senescent human red cells. As clotrimazole is a well known blocker of this channel, an effect of CLT on lifespan may be expected. Are there reports in the literature showing an effect of CLT (or CLT derivatives with higher channel-affinity) on lifespan of normal RBCs? What about pathological ones such as sickle cells? Do such azoles improved sRBC life expectancy beyond a normal lifespan? Most grateful for your comments.
