I squeeze twice the assays out of the BD kits. First, we use the antibody pair instead of the kit and buy Millipore plates separately. By using 50ul/well for coating and detection antibodies instead of 100ul I am able to get ~12 plates worth of assays instead of the advertised 5 plates.
Best approach is to buy separate antibodies. If you will run many experiments, you might want to inquire about volume discounts. Please be careful with using much less antibody than recommended, since spots will get larger and fainter (you want to have crisp, well defined spots). We use Mabtech's separate mouse IFNg antibodies, and use only 10ug/ml instead of the recommended 15ug/ml for coating. This works well. The spots look perfect!
