So far, the widely used metastatic breast cancer cell lines in vivo is MDA-MB-231 and it`s Lung metastatic (MDA-MB-231-LM2), Bone metastatic (MDA-MB-231-BoM) or Brain metastatic (MDA-MB-231-BrM) derivative. These derivatives are generated in Jaon Massague lab. There are some reports of using BT549 and Hs578T. I don`t have idea about SUM though.
Thank you very much Ruhul, we already have MDA-231 cells and I was looking for another cell line to back up data that we have for MDA-231s. BT549 are not easy to grow and to work with. They grow very slow and are quite fussy. The SUM serie looks attractive but I can't find any information about them in in vivi models.
I can't give you a complete answer but... we have compared MDA-231 and SUM149 cell lines in vivo using NSG mice as recipients. The SUM149 cells grow very poorly in both subcutaneous and experimental metastatic (i.v. injection) models in vivo. I agree that the SUM lines have attractive properties but haven't seen much in vivo use either. I will follow your question to see if anyone has any positive results.
