I have a EU monograph reference standard gentamicin sulfate which stated 660 IU/mg, how can I convert it to ug/mg for test?
I found that some people said 0.01mg = 1 IU
However, from online converter stated 660 IU/mg = 1030 ug/mg
It makes me so confused, is there anyone have idea?

Internatial Units (IU) stands for a unit commonly used to measure vitamines, vaccines and meds. The volume or mass that stands for a IU depends on the concetration of potency of the substance, so you cant easy calculate.

IU is defined as a quantity of a biologic (such as a vitamin) that produces a particular biological effect agreed upon as an international standard, that means is that each substance would have a different IU to milligram conversion. Then is not correct that 0.01 mg is equivalent to 1 IU, cause every substance has a different biological effect and a different rate of conversion. There are several online converter like the one you cited that may help.

The online calculator assumes activity of 641IU/mg, so 660IU/641IU/mg = 1.0296mg, hence x1000 = 1030mcg.
Generally, and very simply: Ymg = ZIU / XIU/mg or converselyZIU = XIU/mg * Ymg
The conversion rate depends on the macro molecule you wish to convert. As for oxytocin, 10iu/ml =0.1mg/ml.
I also have a question how do I convert a neomycin sulfate µg, gentamicin sulphate and bacitracin, given that the European Pharmacopoeia activity/content of antibiotics expressed in IU, and American in µg.

Its gentamicn sufate have 641 IU of Gentamicin means 1 mg have 641 µg of genamicin in 1mg of gentamicin sulfate.
