If you had any researches or investigations on the plant roles in the wetlands, please write me about the percentage of pollution reduction or it's efficiency in the systems. For example some researches reported 10-20% in removal of N and P after harvesting of the plants. Does anyone researched the same works or any data that may be higher efficiency for the role of plants in the system. How much percentage of COD and BOD5 reduction is related to role of the plants. How much is related to the rhizomes of the plants and attached biofilms or the same data?

We have used the submerged aquatic Ceratophyllum demersum (Coonstail) to very effectively provide a final stage polishing pond in stabilization ponds. The plant covers the base of the pond early in the spring and ties up N and P allowing for discharge to wetland or irrigation system. The plant also in full sun supersaturates the water column with oxygen. We have published on detailed paper in Prairie Geographical Perspectives which is an on-line open publication. We are currently working on the development of the stabilization pond system that operates in one of our National Parks
