We are in possession of a GC-MS/FID system and want to quantify Irgafos 168 (plus Irganox 168) in PE foil. At this point we only encountered a method which uses saponification of Irgafos 168 by using a KOH solution (methanol). Does anyone know any other ways to quantify these type of components on a GC system? Or should we consider a HPLC system instead?

Direct measurement is possible e.g on a column like the Zebron ZB-1ms, 30m, 0.25mm, 0.25µm with SSL-Injector. Saponification is not necessary. Quantification with an external standard method works fine.
There are typical mass specs for Irgafos 168 (Mol weight 646, basepeaks: 441 (100%), 646 (35%), 147 (30) and the oxidized variant (Mol weight 662, basepeaks: 57 (100%), 316 (70%), 647 (70%), 662 (60%), which can be used.......
There is a method with HPLC which is pretty straightforward. At the Application below the extraction is done with Pressurized Fluid Extraction (ASE) and analyzed by LC-UV with no need for derivatization.
