I am working on Caco2 cells and interested in the folate receptors which are highly expressed in the cells. I am using a late passage (90), where cells are growing fine, but can someone inform/guide me whether the folate receptors will still be expressed in a good manner, and whether I can use this passaged cells?
The only way that you can find this is to run western blot and probe for the DHFR protein. IF you are using this current cell line for experiments (esp Drug delivery), it would be difficult to trust the data. Unfortunately, no one reports their passage number when writing methods. So, if you cannot run western, I would say it is difficult
I think Marin Michael is right. Cells lines should express the same proteins and receptors independently of the passage, but you need to run a WB to confirm it because in tumour cells, you never know.
