Cancer stem cells and epithelial mesenchymal transition are considered to correlate with cancer metastasis. I would like to know whether cancer stem cells specifically show epithelial mesenchymal transition.
it is not clear what exactly do you mean by EMT. do u mean cell migration that is measured using scratch assay? if yes, then yes migration of CSCs is different than that of non CSCs.migration is not a property speciic to CSCs.
The most important thing you have to have in mind is that cancer stem cells are not defined as the cellular population which is easy to show EMT. Rather than that, CSCs are enriched after EMT and exhibit self-renewal and trans-differentiation as well as several biological features to be responsible for the resistance to anti-tumor therapies. That is why the question you ask resembles to the egg or chicken (the confusion of cause or effect). The difference in susceptibility to TGF-beta ligand depends on the expression level of TGF-beta receptor and the Smad expression pattern depending on cell context, which is not likely to directly reflect the phenotype of CSCs.
