I have used these in the past, and just like any gel tank, as long as you follow the manufacturers recommendations and protocols you should be able to have very reproducible results. If you are currently using a different gel tank set up and are wanting to change to the mini tanks, you might need some slight tweaks from your current protocols.
I have used these and they work well and reproducible. On yearly costs you do save on reagents but thats about it. Overall they work similar to the regular gel and save you some time.
Shawn Krueger Thanks a lot for your input and could you please let me know what kind of tweaks we need to incorporate to get the desired results? it would a great help if you can give some inputs about that too.
Blake Balcomb your answer is inspiring. thank you.
Shakir Tuleab you are welcome. new equipment and technologies are always interesting for me .
You might have to change the amount of total protein due to the well volume, as well as voltage/amps and time for running the gels if you are use to larger formats
Yes you can but you have to change the condition of the run regarding the currant & the voltage, as well as the quantity of your sample that you do apply.
I use the invotrogen mini gel tanks, mini gels, and iBlot system almost every day. They work great and I've never had a problem. The gels come in 10, 12, and 15-well format, so you can load more volume on the gels with less wells.
If you're looking for a bit of cost savings, I've also used the SDS-PAGE gels from Genscript and they work with the thermo/invitrogen tank.
For staining, I HIGHLY reccomend Acquastain from Bulldog Bio. I believe you can purchase it from Sigma and Thermo... It stains in 5-10 minutes and only requires minimal washing. I could run, stain, and get results in less than an hour and a half.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions!
