Wow. You don't mean 240 new recommendations for last week alone do you? I had 22 new ones, and my "score" dropped a little (0.51, I think), and wondered about it, but you win the prize for the craziest change.

If it's any compensation, I've seen very well-known statisticians on here with so-called "scores" in the 20s. It doesn't mean much except ResearchGate is trying to encourage participation, but I think not succeeding when they lower your score. Ignoring "score," however, it is good to have a free place to post papers, and ask and answer questions. I only got on here in the first place to save old papers, but got into putting new informal papers here. It's a great, free resource. Best to ignore the crazy scores. Feels insulting when you do a good job to help people, and it feels like you have just been told otherwise, I know. Your change might even be a glitch in the RG software. At any rate, I'm sure you did a good job.

Thanks for your answer. You're right, I think there might be a mistake. Despite this negativity, I think RG is a good environment.

I'm curious. You have 345 publications, which account for about half of your "score." Do you remember if publications accounted for more than half of your score the previous week? If so, perhaps ResearchGate changed their formula for calculating their "score." It's a mystery. They could do anything. Like I said, it's best to concentrate on what a great, and free, resource this is for us all. But I am curious as to whether your publications accounted for much more of your score prior to last week.

Dear Ilhami Unluoglu I assume you experienced unexpected drop in your score. I hope this would be corrected by RG, please contact them and ask them for correction.

Dear Ilhami Unluoglu i think it is technical problem.

In my RG SCORE it decreased 20 ( from 35.2 to 15.21).

if it is technical , we hope they will correct it.

It happened to me last week! Although I was active as usual, for some reason I had a drop in my RG score.

I agree with you that ther is something wrong , and I am sure it is not yours.

Last monday I shared a question on RG , and I think that my question carry similarity with yours ... my question was :

" Do you think that RG has a discrimination bias in calclating the RG scores? , or it is fair enough in calculating the RG scores already ? "

Sure there is a mistake , but it is not yours at all .

Ya same thing also happnd with me. My score decreased though I uploaded more papers and articles, asked some questions. Dont knw what was the reason?

In my case I was having 24.8 score on 24th Sept and on 25th Sept suddenly shows 15.97. There is no such mistake of reading or recommending the things. There must be some technical mistake?

Score was increased 18, 20, 21, 23, 24 in steps as papers and other things are attached. there is no case as suddenly increased.

I want no know reason in my case?

I think Amina has a point.  There seem to be a number of rather extreme changes.  Larger changes than I would have guessed would occur.   For all we know, there is a software glitch, and ResearchGate may not know about it.  Or they may have changed a "formula,' which may have had unintended consequences. 

So, using Amina's idea, perhaps you might want to contact ResearchGate. The help center URL where you can contact them is

RG should address this problem of decreasing scores and come out with transparent system.

My score also dropped down considerably today for the reason not known to me. However, I like RG and enjoy my interaction with other members of RG. I have a feeling that the exact procedure of calculation of RG score is not known to the majority of the members of RG. We all make speculations and have some broad ideas about the general principles. What are we looking for is the exact procedure of calculation so as to remove our speculations. Can someone help

My RG score drop problem, I had last week, was corrected an hour ago.

In the meantime, I would like to thank all my friends, those who have been interested, supported and made suggestions to my problem. I would also like to thank "RG Community Support" for evaluating my application in this process.

I wish similar problems of other members, have been solved.

Dear Ilhami Unluoglu, et al, I had the same precipitous drop in RG score (some 15 points decrease), for no apparent reason in mid Sept. RG help responded with the same generic msg. I was considering deleting the RG account as google scholar better represents my profile re: citations and H index, and there’s no mystery there. But as I was mulling pulling the plug, suddenly today my previous RG score was restored. I guess they fixed the glitch in their algorithm. I hope others here on this thread had the same restoration of their scores.

Thank you for the valuable information provided among this thread; as, I too, experienced a decrease in my RG Score a few weeks prior to the commencement of October. Perhaps there was an unintentional, algorithmic error responsible for its cause; however, I am pleased to find that the technicality has been promptly resolved and the appropriate scores have been restored.

Yes, sometimes I do have the same practice. I do agree with a number of colleagues who stated dated back; "RG score has nonsense!!!"

What the hell is all this obsessive chat about "scores"? Are we in academia running some sort of horse race?

Just realised that TRI refers to total research interest....I think this is very useful.

However, if you are doing something which is niche, you may well not have high Tri. I remember one person getting published alot in good journals on Christmas and Organization. This is a bad example...it's like the announcements for useless research, ignobel recommendations...and one I recollect from years ago was a study which determined if you'd seat yourself on the right or left of a movie theatre! Quite!

Write research articles and put on RG

Put book chapters on

RG has a crazy system that rewards people if asking questions and answering questions.

Soon they will be bombarding you with adverts..as need to make money somehow.

Do not get engaged in debates about RG just do your research, share and colloborate.

There are lots of threads and somehow, many people in developing countries have been trying to get high RG score, and this is encouraged by some folks who work for Elsevier. The only thing matters are publications and citations.
