In my opinion, it is better to use ATCC because it is a strain, but it is possible to use such isolates if they are diagnosed microscopically, biochemically, serological and confirmed via molecular tests (PCR) ... If they pass those tests and they are positive, we can use them because here they were not diagnosed as presumptive spp. only but they confirmed by PCR, so they confirmed at the species level and here we can consider them as strains.

Bacterial isolates from patients might have a different susceptibility pattern than wild type. This could be resulted from encounters with antimicrobial agents used in clinical settings. Sewage also contains chemicals such as detergents and antimicrobial agents as well that may alter the genuine susceptibility pattern of the questioned species.

It's better to use standard strain or to isolate and identify a wild type strain from it's natural habitat (if possible).

I completely agree with Dr Jameel answer. Even though bacteria have under gone strong antibiotic selective pressure due to antibiotic residues in the sewage.

You can even try using MTCC culture, less costly than ATCC, but equally efficient.

Yes you can use any bacteria isolated from clinical cases , Sewage ,soil but you need to check this bacteria regarding mutation or antibiotics resistance. Good luck .
