I am culturing A549 cells, I have noticed there are white color particle like things floating on the media. it was visible to the naked eye also. there was no color change in the media or there was no change of the cells . cells are grown nicely. when i saw using microscope there were many yellow color clumps floating , i kept the culture plate for another day inside the incubator with the incubation time floating clumps were increased. but no color change in media, or no change of the cells. What could be the reason? Is it a contamination?
most likely funghi, are these a particularly high turnover cell line that exhibit alot of cell death?

It's yeast. Most probably. I have the same experience. These guys will migrate to all over the incubator and you are at a risk to post-contamination. So remove disinfect the incubator, discard everything in the incubator. Usually yeast contamination occurs at inappropriate septic conditions. Wash your hands with 70% ethanol always and wipe the stage of the microscope with ethanol if you observe the plate through it before place into the incubator.
I know we try our best to make sure we are clean. But this happens.

If you could post a picture, that would help. Yeast doesn't usually clump, but it could be either dead cells or mold.
