By watching YouTube at home, students may gain a full idea about their lecture. So, do you , as a college instructor, encourage such use of YouTube by your students?
I think that, If the teacher uses techniques such as YouTube, good opportunities will be achieved for students to understand the content presented on the subject. However, this initial understanding, though good, is not enough for learning which aims to retain long-term knowledge and use. Instead, students must have opportunities to practice new skills and deepen their understanding of new information. Without this kind of extended treatment, the knowledge initially understood by students may fade and be lost over time.

I agree with you totally that such kind of techniques is not enough. In fact it complements the full understanding of the subject. It support teacher 's efforts to deliver the material. Thank you so much for your answer.
Combining YouTube into lessons is one of the many balancing acts teachers must pay attention to. Do you encourage your students to use it?
Think not all YouTube video clips are good neither all are bad. Depending on the subject relevancy, the teacher's teaching method as well as the maximum learning for the students, selective YouTube clip(s) can be used as part of the teaching or case study. Better still if the selected YouTube clip(s) can be watched together in the class by all students & the teacher so that appropriate clarification, Q&A, teaching message can be transpired.
In general, You Tube is gaining more popularity among the social media used both as a learning tool and evaluation of experiences happening in L2 classrooms. This method of instruction plays a complementary role in the process of teaching/learning . The application of You Tube is reported to be meritorious for the language learners i9nh several ways . For one thing, it provides more input and increases the rate of exposure. Second, it makes the learning more joyful.Third, it promotes students' preparation for exams. Fourth, It is an additional extra for for reinforcing the learning of the subject matter. Finally, it allows for more teachers' intervention creating more opportunities to consolidate managerial activities within the learning context.
In fact what I do in my class is choose a YouTube that suit a lecture and watch it with my students and discuss its content after the lecture. Thank you so much for sharing your valuable opinions.
The benefit of using YouTube in teaching a foreign language are inevitable. The merits that you mention is very helpful and enriching. Thank you so much for your addition. I highly appreciate it.
It is really useful tool by all means cause it adds the flavor of enthusiasm among students. Thank you so much dear Dr Khansaa Hassan Al-Bahadli for your answer.
For today’s EFL learners whose milieu is replete with electronic, visual, and digital materials, the integration of the pertinent multimedia resources such as embedded videos, audio tracks and still visual images can facilitate learning processes. Clearly, the use of such multimodal materials are of great importance because they not only provide an opportunity for different learners with various learning styles to choose a way of learning that most suit them, but also serve as a strong motivating factor for learners and make the language learning process more enjoyable. Moreover, the use of multimedia resources that are accompanied with a given text provides learner with a greater deal of language input. Nevertheless, despite the era of the digital native, our students have not, under certain circumstances, abandoned more traditional resources and it would be a mistake for practitioners and other material developers to slavishly follow the digitalized medium route for everything.
Your viewpoint concerning making a mix between the traditional methods and the new digital ones is very acceptable and I usually depend on it. The use of technology is a two faces weapon and we can not diminish the role of the teacher whose ideas favorable classroom environment even without using technology. Thank you so much dear colleague for sharing your valuable opinions.
as Dr.Bahadoran stated, blended method is the best to fulfill different students ' needs and strategies. we should use all the resources available to achieve the goal .the eclcetive and reflective method based on students ' needs and wants can be the best.
Yes I encourage my students to use YouTube because it has several benefits, including 1) facilitating thinking and problem solving, 2) assisting with mastery learning, 3) increased student motivation, and 4) enhanced learning experience
YouTube and other video sites, such as Google Video and Vimeo, are highly popular, especially with young adults. These sites also provide English learners and ESL classes with tools to improve listening skills. The advantage of these sites from a language learning point of view is that they offer examples of everyday English used by everyday people. Students can spend hours watching videos in English and quickly improve their pronunciation and comprehension skills. There also are specific English learning videos. Using YouTube in the ESL classroom can be fun and helpful, but there must be structure. Otherwise, class might become a free-for-all.
There are several uses for youtube videos in learning with many known pedagogical benefits. Willmot et all (2012) found that Y.videos can both inspire and engage students when it is incorporated into student-centered learning activities, including increased motivation, enhanced communication shills and overall higher marks (Willmot et al,2012). These are strong findings that support the use of videos in learning.

One of the main features of the post modern era is to pay attention to learners' self regulated learning strategies. Social media like You tube can help teachers to pave the way for creating dialogical activities because such an engagement can result in self access learning and positive feedback.
