I am much in favor of team teaching, also called, as you say, co-teaching or cooperative teaching. I prefer to say cooperative than collaborative teaching because collaboration may reminds us, say, of collaborationism with the "enemy". No doubt, team teaching provides a more supportive environment than that provided by one teacher system. Team teaching is also an opportunity for students to listen to different voices and perspectives. In principle, the more voices and perspectives one is able to differentiate and integrate, the more developed one is. So, it seems that there is much to be gained when team teaching is the case.

Thank you very much for your kind words related to my comment on your answer. As you can see, in a more or less explicit manner, all the previous comments speak in favor of team teaching. Indeed, team teaching is an excellent opportunity for students to listen to different voices and perspectives. There is accumlated evidence that shows that one's psychological development, be it cognitive, moral or aesthetical, greatly depends on one's ability to differentiate and integrate different dimensions, perspectives, and viwepoints. Of course, team taching may be more appropriate on some occasions than on other ones. Its value, however, should be recongized.

This condition can be applied in some situations:

1. Experimental classes, mainly in chemistry, physics or other that require closer student follow-up;

2. classes in denser disciplines that require deepening of topics by specialists;

3. hospital classes for health students;

4. Interdisciplinarity in the areas of human, technological or health.

In any listed situation, collective participation must be harmonious to avoid conflicts of interests on the part of the advisors. Humility and criticality must be worked out in a way that the work can be positive for all involved.

Particularly I have already participated in disciplines with 2 and up to 3 supervisors and the result was very rewarding. The relationship between the counselors and helped to provide training for the colleague and vice versa, besides being as "more critical students" and being able to help the colleague's conduct in explaining important information to the students. The most important in this type of work is the mutual respect between the supervisors to avoid conflicts and to diminish the discipline's performance.

It is bad idea! The primary role of a great teacher is providing inspiration and team teaching loses this important dimension.

Team teaching let teachers focus on the things that they are expert in...thus students get the best our of the best.

I'll have to agree with Amir that it is not (at least broadly) a good idea. One of the things students struggle with most in classes is when there is inconsistency, and rightly so. Any inconsistency in presentation, grading, standards, expectations, can leave them in complete disarray. It is enough of a learning curve at the beginning of each term when they are trying to figure out what we want from them.

My feeling is based on math / science classes though. Perhaps in disciplines where discussion / debate is more integrated in the classroom, team teaching can be helpful, but even then, there must be a single leader responsible for the grading / evaluation while others serve essentially as TAs.
