can somebody help me concerning the preparation of a cholesterol solution for cell culture ? Do I have to prepare a stock solution in ethanol and then dilute it in culture medium at a ratio of 1:1000 ? Any other ideas or possibilities ?

Here is the method:
1. Stock solution: Add 50.0 mg of Cholesterol to 5.0 ml of 99.5% EtOH, dissolve
and make aliquots of 0.5 ml and store them at -20 C.
2. To complete the medium to make 250 ml, add 0.5 ml of Stock (dissolve before use)
So, it is all!

To confirm that what filipic explained is true. In addition, don't forget to filter sterile your cholesterol before adding to your culture media.
I used to prepare cholesterol stock solution i THF and dilute in culture medium. It was working for me.
