Most papers deal with processes that lead to free oxidized nucleobases in the cytoplasm (damaging, excision repair, pyrophosphate severing and N-glycosidic bond cleavage) but do not consider further metabolic events. I don't even mention the 8-oxo-dG bunch. My concern is basically whether the purine catabolism pathway transforms oxidized purines into hypoxanthine.
