Please share your knowledge on the faith of oxidized nucleic acid bases. Fast yet extensive PubMed browsing gave no positive results. Most papers deal with processes that lead to free oxidized nucleobases in the cytoplasm (damaging, excision repair, pyrophosphate severing and N-glycosidic bond cleavage) but do not consider further metabolic events. I don't even mention the 8-oxo-dG bunch. My concern is basically whether the purine catabolism pathway transforms oxidized purines into hypoxanthine.
