Can I use EdU alone using a 96well plate reader setup for measuring unscheduled DNA synthesis, instead of using the invitrogen Click-IT kit which uses EdU + alexa 488? The kit seems expensive if EdU will be detectable without flurochrome addition.
I have good experiences with products from another company (Baseclick, located in Germany) offering kits and also single components of the click technology. The kits from Baseclick seem to be cheaper than the kits from invitrogen. It is also possible to order the alexa 488 azide, or other fluorescence azides used for the click reaction, as single reagents. See www.baseclick.eu for more informations.
