is any body using hep 2 cell line from ATCC. I would like to know what are the chances of contamination to other cell lines If I use these in tissue culture and incubator. I have bought this cell line and have to use them for neutrilizing Ab assay for polio virus. They are HeLa contaminated. I am worried about other cell lines I use in lab. will they get contaminated with HeLa if i use it in same hood and incubator. I will be taking all the usual precautions but still.....please help
If you will use all standard precautions, you should be fine. Avoid using same media and reagents for both cell lines, clean and use UV after your work in biosafety hood. Multiple cell lines together in one incubator should be fine, as they are in sterile-closed T-flasks. And - the simpliest and most neglected tip - use your microscope, regularly! If there is any doubt in cell shape, proliferation rate.. then dispose of that culture and use new stock.
