I am planning to work on anti-tumor compounds from traditional medicine in different cell lines. I would prefer to compare their efficacy with known drugs. Is cyclophosphamide a good choice? Please suggest drugs that can be used as a positive control and are cost-effective.
yes off course you can use it or any other drug drug like cisplatin can also be used. But , talking about cost effectiveness in very beginning is not to be the point of discussion. As for primary screening you need not to worry about positive control and you can compare with untreated control. Once you get highly significant results you can go for toxicity screening of drug then for comparison with positive control. for that you have to compare both efficacy and toxicity along with cost effectiveness and availability. This will give you the correct efficacious drug combination. hope you got my point.
Thanks Vinay, by cost-effective I meant the cost of the chemical (Cyclophosphamide or any).
Others are costlier than cyclophosphamide, if you compare potency i.e. Amount of drug utilized for getting same effect cyclophosphamide will be cheaper as most of them are metal based drug. And as we go for higher drugs toxicity increases and cyp still used in treatment of malignant tumors so to best of my knowledge you can go for it but when you have finalized your traditional compound with normal control. Otherwise cost of extra group of animals, feed there maintenance cost etc., will be more.....
