Can anyone identify Paecilomyces lilacinus? Mycelium color is similar to P. lilacinus, but I don't have experience in the identification of the species.
If you want to use morphology, there's a Sansom's 1974 key, but I expect things have moved on. The second ref (1972) is also relevant as some Talaromyces have Paecilomyces anamorphs. Good luck!
This species is soil inhabitant and a biological control agent against Globodera and Heterodera spp.
Colonies of this fungus is lilac to purple,Hyphae branched and septate, Conidiophores arising from hyphae, aerial myselia and occasionally forming synnemata. Conidia smooth to minutely rough. chlamydospore absent.
the below link can help you to identify this fungus:
Please check the description in IMI Descriptions of Fungi and Bacteria"1426 publizhed by Z. Kozakiewicz (2000) and compare with your strain. also you can use the description provided by Domsch, & Gams (1993) Compendium of soil fungi
I could send you those documents as privately, send me a message through ResearchGate
You could also try the key (Chinese species but P. lilacinus included) based on pure culture characters. There is also a paper dealing with ITS usage and taxonomical problems in the genus (see attachments).
This is a common soil fungus. But can be present on insects and human beings. The name Paecilomyces lilacinus has been changed. The current name is Purpureocillium lilacinum. Pls check the literature Luangsa-ard et al. 2011. FEMS Microbiol. Lett. 321(2): 144. Please go for a slide culture to get an excellent picture of conidiophore, phialides and spores. Please refer Compendium of Soil Fungi for full description (Domsch, & Gams 1993).
The images presented are not helpful in the identification. Mere color can not help. Make a slide culture and study morphology. Search for conidiophore, phialide, their colour and cell wall nature, rough or smooth, conidia nature. Then compare these characters of your fungus with the fungi known allread by seeing net.
