I am working with mammalian cortical pyramidal neuron model. I have been scanning through literature and have found various firing rates being described between a wide range of 0.2-400 Hz(approximately). I understand that it is because the firing frequency diversely varies itself within the cortex . Also, the rates vary as per the inputs from the surrounding neurons.

But to capture the essence in a computational framework, I need essentially a narrow range within which I can validate my model. Anybody, whose working on in vitro studies of cortical pyramidal neuron(that too at the single cell level), please provide me with a reference for the same.

Alongside, I have another doubt, whenever we talk about fast spiking neurons in the cortex, is it necessary that they should be interneurons? Doesn't the cortex have excitatory neurons that fire at very high frequency like 150 Hz?
