I want to generate a spiking signal of desired frequency and amplitude. I want to give this as an input to my astrocyte-vessel model which gives some output value. Dont consider the details of the models.. Lets assume it to be a system which takes a spiking pattern as an input and gives some final value of a variable 'a'.. Now this system is very selective in taking input waveforms.. It takes only spiking waveform as an input.. I tried with sinusoidal, sawtooth square waveforms.. But at some value of frequency it gives Nan values(which is extremely undesired!)
So can anybody tell as to how can I generate a spiking pattern waveform wherein I can control the frequency and the amplitude?

Go to MATLAB help and type: "gmonopuls" which is Gaussian monopulse function which looks like spikes if set the proper frequency to it. Multiplying it by a number will scale it's amplitude.
Also, there is one simple way I used to use it sometimes by generating a sine wave with the desired frequency and amplitude and then using logic operation I extract the peaks only.
This is the code I use:
t=0:0.001:5;
x=2*sin(2*pi*t*5); % the amplitude = 2
y=(x == 2); %logic operation, you can change the amplitude value
plot(t,x)
hold on
plot(t,y,'r')
Thanks for your reply but the code generates a signal with binary values of 2 and 0. I rather want an array with continuous values. Besides i am trying modifying gmonopuls acc to my requirements..
