There are low number of cell line/cell isolation/cell identification/cell culture in abalone. Most report were focused on hemocytes or mantle cells to produce pearl crystal. Even that type of report still limited. There are reports on different cell types from histology but in cell culture, there were not much or because less effort from myself.
Anyway, I would appreciate if anyone can give me some tips or guide or direct me to a certain paper to refer. My interest is the isolation and identification of cell in connective tissue and I want to try to culture them. It will be a great chance to study more and understand the invertebrate cell system.
Does anyone have any experience in isolating or identification of different cell types in mantle/gut tissue? (specifically in media formulation and parameter condition)

Having the blood the thought went through our minds of cloning rhinos.
There horns are of great value .

Something like that. However, if people have other sources to depend on which is renewable or does not use the animals itself for its benefits. Then, it may worth considering. But, rhino horns is valuable just because people want them. But it cannot benefit a larger population who realy need help. In this case, my interest is the pharmaceutical product which come from them. hehe

Dear Fareed, I have a recype of the media to culture mantle cells of abalone, which we used to culture the cells for pearl production in H. rufescens. If you will I can send it to you the next week. I am working in a drilling company now because there is no work in abalone culture, in which I worked for 17 years. We finally produced round pearls but of poor quality. At the end of the next week I will be on my homenow I am at the mine, and then I can send you the recipe, it worked for us. You should start open your own small version of pearl synthesizing company. By the way, Do you know which cells type produce the pearl? I read some papers but none of them mention about it. As I said earlier, my interest rely on a specific cells in the connective tissue located in the mantle and digestive glands. Anyway, thank you very much :) I wish you a safe journey home or to work.
