There are a few recorded cases of traumatic abdominal wall hernias. I am researching inguinal hernias specifically, as being a possible result of being thrown at speed [approx. 30mph] off a galloping horse on to a stone track. From what I understand this high energy impact transmits a significant amount of kinetic energy to the body. The tangential forces result in a sudden increase in intra-abdominal pressure before the abdominal shutter mechanisms can activate, thus an indirect inguinal hernia can suddenly appear.
