I want to analyze presence of traces of ethanol present in any solution like soap and other similar products. Could anyone help me telling best range of wave length of Infra Red to analyze/estimate ethanol contents.
You must be careful, however, if you try to do it in aqueous solutions, as water also absorbs in the same range. In this case the C-H vibrations do not help more, as soaps or almos any other organic component contains these bands. I woudl suggest rather using gas chromatography, but be careful with injecting aqueous samples on the GC column. You should use headspace chromatography to detect the volatile components. It should be calibrated.
