Dear Professor Gamal  as Hematologist Im so optimistic about the future treatment for cancer a good example for this is the Chronic myeloid leukemia and Tyrosine kinase inhibitors with great advance in one decade another example is novel agents in multiple myeloma and the revolution in Myeloma  treatment May be we can cure some types of cancers in the coming decade

Of course the revolution in hematology changed the percentage of cure in Myeloproliferative disorders, M Myeloma and acute leukemia. Also in solid tumors the development of target therapy improve the prognosis of some cancers.

I think cancer is not a disease but a common symptom of the hundreds and thousands of different diseases, just like a fever. Fever itself is not a disease, we can now control various diseases that caused the high fever. Similarly as mentioned above; we can now handle one type of leukemia by the magic drug Imatinib; but we need to understand, there are various different combination of mutations and aberrant cell signaling that can cause the leukemia. So I believe I may not see fancy news headings “Scientist have found the cure for cancers” but instead in future I see narrow down approach in which every cancer patient will get unique treatment based on the data that will be generated by integration of his/her metablomic, proteomic or/and transcriptomic and genomics

Cancer is hard to beat because it is an evolutionary mechanism to protect the survival of life on Earth. Please see the below given link.

Diagnosis of cancer at earliest by latest knowledge , markers, instruments and training of physicians and feasible

Like wise treatment of cancer is also developing very fast specially in brain and spinal cord tumors

With the constant progresses in cancer research it will be possible to cure more people. With the new ways of early detection of cancer it will be easier to treat patients. Prevention is playing more and more an important role. In certain cases of cancer gene and cell therapy will be possible (hopefully at a lower cost) and for other type of cancer the targeting of the cancers cells will be more and more precise.

After several years of lung cancer, I considered as survivor,

different treatment methods are not the problem of the disease, the problem in the methods of diagnosis and early detection and media interventions to raise awareness, and in the application of treatment, which reacts to each individual depending on the age, type, degree and location of the disease

The issue is not optimism or pessimism, it is a reality, the high cost of diagnosis and treatment, high mortality rates in all countries of the world

I am optimistic. New technologies and treatment protocols are being developed. Photodynamic therapy has been looked at for some years now and it holds great potential. If nothing else minimizing side effects present in existing treatment methods is of value.

Dear Dr Jean-Pierre Jost I agree with your comment . Now > 30% of cancers can be cured if detected early and treated adequately. And 30% can be prevented. The development of personalized target therapy increase the chance of cure .
