Original question posted on April 17, 2018

Is there a published example of a function whose derivative is zero everywhere and that is not constant?

Updated on May 27, 2018

I have just modified the question, because examples have been posted below on this page, and the question is no longer whether an example has been published, we know that the answer is yes, the new question is whether there are more examples. So my new question is:

Are there more examples of nonconstant functions from R into a TVS with zero derivative?

More precisely:

Are there more examples of nonconstant functions defined on a nonempty open interval D of the set R of real numbers into a topological vector space whose derivative is zero at every point of D?

In the discussion below on this page:

1. About one month ago, Robert Rolland posted two references:

The first refers to an article published by Daniel Etter referring to the second reference.

The second is a book published by Paul Levy containing such an example.

2. About one month ago, Robert Rolland posted more information about the example of Paul Levy.

3. On April 27, 2018, I found another reference to an article published by Helge Glockner containing another example.

4. About 7 days ago, Maximilian F. Hasler posted an extremely surprising observation about a corollary in the article of Helge Glockner.

5. On May 23, 2018 I posted references to 2 other articles, one with an example. I have not yet had time to check the other.

6. On May 25, 2018, I posted another reference to an article. I do not have a copy of the article. I do not know whether it contains an example or a question.

7. On May 25, 2018, Robert Rolland explained the example of Helge Glockner.

Note: Above, when I say “About one month ago” it is what Research Gate says. When it is possible, I give the exact date.
