I am sorry if in any way my question is not clear, or if chose very specific examples as for byzantine or medieval city walls.The reason why I chose to ask it that way is because of the walls lenght and scale compared to a specific historical site. Furthermore the intent is not to create just a vistirol center, but to create several spaces and landscapes in a big area around them, that intensifies the existence of  both the wall and its missing parts. I have searched  many visitor centers or in situ archaeological museums and parks. Maybe a better question could be visitor/cultural centers near/around large scale historical sites.

I would recommend to consider the case of Lucca, a very nice city in Tuscany whose outstanding Medieval walls were transformed into a beautiful city walk during the 19th century.  Around the Medieval walls in the Balkan cities were some places used for commerce and for the visitors.They were known as Varosh, i.e. suburbia.

Within the walls were the inns and later carvansaray, mainly for the visitors. Monasteries were used by the visitors as well.
