I recently became aware of PubPeer (https://pubpeer.com/static/about) and For Better Science (https://forbetterscience.com). PubPeer Foundation is a California-registered public-benefit corporation with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in the United States. Anyone can post (after easy registration) anonymously written reports to highlight what they think errors, plagiarism, forging, data manipulation, misleading conclusions, etc in published literature. The site ask Authors to respond as allow them to do so. Meanwhile, FBS has a known editor is a known person (Leonid Schneider) who posts more sharpened exposé against certain authors or institutions. From your opinion, are these whistleblower websites serving science and research? or they may become a way for personal attacks or unjustified trashing of the reputation of targeted authors?
