I am working on CAFs and I want to know whether we can get Breast Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) commercially in the form of cell lines as we get for Cancer cell lines?
Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) seems not to be available as an immortalized cell line commercially as it is not very different phenotypically from normal fibroblast, rather CAFs are assumed to be normal fibroblasts that have been altered as a result of continuous exposure to cancer cells. Indeed, CAFs often share several similarities with normal fibroblasts. (Trends in Molecular Medicine August 2013, Vol. 19, No. 8)
Establishing viral transfected stable CAF is not very complicated an can be achieved following the following protocol publeshed in JOVE article (http://www.jove.com/video/3201/experimental-generation-carcinoma-associated-fibroblasts-cafs-from?id=3201).
I am sharing these two articles as a single pdf doc for further reading.

The Breast Cancer Campaign Tissue an Cell Bank in the UK offer primary fibroblasts from a whole range of human breast tissues including cancer associated fibroblasts. They can be grown in culture for at least 6 passages. Look us up on the web and apply. We would be very happy to help you out.
