I was going through articles for the soft agar assay. All the protocol says about culturing only one cell type at one time. is there any reports for culturing two different cell types(Cancer cell types) together.
I am not sure about the particular assay, but many groups use co-culture techniques to better mimic the in vivo conditions. For example, a particular cancer cell line can be co-cultured with stromal cells which are present in the tissue of origin. Although, I haven't used co-culture techniques, I believe there are special type of culture vessels/dishes which are used for co-culturing cells.
As far as the question of co-culturing different cancer cell lines are concerned, I don't think it is being done; and also I don't know what purpose it would solve!
Thank you for your answer. Actually I am searching for culturing cancer stromal cells with the cancer cells( Co-culture). I know that there are special dishes by various companies for that (Using Metrigel). I am just searching whether we can do co-culturing using soft agar.(I mean culturing two cells togrether). I just want to know can we reproduce the results without the use of special type of culture vessels.
