Hello altruists!
So, I am trying my hand at some basic structural simulation at ANSYS WB, and I was trying to simulate the compression of a spring as in a shock absorber. I have attached the pictures herewith.
My problem is that, the deflection should theoretically come out to be 0.93mm, whereas it is coming to be 0.61mm using ANSYS. Any suggestions will be truly appreciated. I have applied a load of 100N, spring wire diameter is 7.25mm and the helix diameter is 30mm; the total number of coils is 6. If you want to try it out I can send you the CAD assembly files in pm (let me know).
Kindly recheck your calculation....I calculated and it is coming 0.61mm...i.e. similar to ANSYS.....I used deflection = (8.W.D^3.n)/G.d^4...n=6, G=E/2.6
i think so your using structural steel but actually we use different grade steel with various in properties.so due to material property you got like that(always the theoretically value and analysis value will not be equal it will only be closer value with 10% various-ion)
Thank you Naveen. The thing is, I have used the default value of G from ansys material library, and the number of active coils is 5 in this case (square open end approximation). In any way, even I consider it 6, it is coming to be somewhere around 0.75mm.
