There is a number of of so-called pressure-sensitive polymer resins used as a sticky cover layer for preparation of sticky Polyimide films e.g., polyacrylates, resins based on siloxane polymers. Many of them require an additional layer of tackifier. Also resins like Polyamidoimide (PAI). Some Patents for creation of a sticky layer recommend an alkaline pretreatment of Polyimide surface. However all the above-listed ways to create sticky PI surface are not wthout shortcomings or rather expensive. We would greatly appreciate some better and simpler idea of obtaining sticky PI films.

Perhaps sulfonation at the surface could help. It can be done under mild condition e.g. with sulfuric acid in acetic anhydride. The surface sulfonated PI should have a good compatiblity to melamine formaldehyde resins or phenol formaldehyde resins which could be used as sticky layer.
