Yes you are very right. Even when the proprietor is educated, he or she may be non professional in the field of education yet he or she treats teachers as nothing. This is not encouraging but demoralized.

I'm very interested to see what others have to say on this matter. Private education (at all levels) may or may not have its own agenda but then cannot the same be said about public education? Ultimately, most people are focused on promoting themselves and their own profits, and perhaps rightly so. That is human nature after all. Does that mean the system is broken?

In all countries, academics (again at all levels) have their hands tied at least to some extent in meetings and professional development. We can debate which country or system is best / worst but ultimately are we in a position to change any system? I'd like to think that if I was in control, things would be different (student centered, pursuing the higher goals of research, teaching, and democratic service to the university) but ultimately no matter where you are in administration, you are answering to someone.

I am very happy getting your answer here .I think you will agree with me that education is not a profit making machine and never it was in the yesteryears in anywhere in the world. From my memory I recall, education was just to enlighten the society and the educators were the monks. They never thought about the personal life , profit making and business. What they have given to us that were pure with dedication, loves and esteemed. But nowadays across the world ( of course there are some exceptions still) Education is a profit and power making machine !!! Patronizing is coming from the well-off literate people of the society powered and backing by the political goons in most of the cases. Investors are thinking its a profit making making industry having target with the time frame. BUT QUALITY CANT BE ENSURED WITH TARGET OF PROFIT MAKING LIKE OTHER INDUSTRY. Education is totally nerve generic and a social service with the warm touch of heart !!

I do not agree on the slavery aspect. We are slaves of what triumphed over us! Even if teachers are not treated to their true value, if they refuse to teach the society can not evolve without them. This is certainly an ungrateful job, but it is done more by vocation!

Every human construction is perennial. Education, conceived by men, is also passing through ... a process of secularization ... like religions ... Contrary, Wisdom ... having an divine origin, is eternal. Education has abandoned Wisdom and, he developed as a tumor, needs ever-increasing funds ... from where? Like the Church, it has received funds from immoral, illiterate and criminal offenders ... who have not hesitated to ask for exchange ... and the education has accepted ... they sell diplomas, doctorates, licenses, etc. ... all that departs from God is subjected to this process of alteration and collapse ... as a consequence of the abandonment of Wisdom, the over-specialization and the extremely harsh development of a science that (there are decades of writing more science than is can to read), as it solves many problems (at least apparently, science is transform in scientific production, with planning, with the normative of researchers ), the more problems appear ...

Well said Carine! Thank you for your insights. A thankless job it certainly is (at least most of the time) but I wonder what would happen if we didn’t do our jobs. My fear is the powers that be would simply hire an army of adjuncts to fill our place at lower cost (and most likely lower quality). Yet we persist to provide the best possible education experience to our students, OUR students. We take pride and ownership in our creations, and I suppose this is what keeps the system going.

Yes ,sometimes, its a thankless job to some well off people . They think its simply a business for making money and the faculty members are their servants as like factories . Being in the supremo in the position, powered by the unethical politics, they exercise the obdurate administration to the delegated and shiny brain-work and hammer the wisdom.

Then the teachers are in troubled and production of brain-works goes to dogs!!

not only in Education sector, that is far more seen in health sector!

It is so true. The private sector has gotten not only into the education business but to other sectors that traditionally the government played a role in - for example, the military, health care, the prisons, etc. Private sector may be more efficient and less costly but not necessarily providing a better quality service. Charter schools (run by private industries) have sprung up everywhere and many have no controls or regulations or accountability.
