I just wonder that if SH-SY5Y cell will lose viability or starting to die after it reaches 100% confluent in the culture and culture media is still keeping renewal/replaced.
Normally the culture guide suggest to maintain cell line in exponential phase to ensure cell viability, genetic stability, and phenotypic stability. But my thought is that SH-SY5Y neuroblatoma is cancer cell which is continue differentiate itself, so after it reach stationary phase or 100% confluence, its viability should be fine as long as the culture media is still renewed every a few day, shoudn't it.

Based on my experience, SH-SY5Y culture is pretty tricky. If you have no experience working on SY5Y cells, you'd better do some parallel tests with different conditions (passaging time, etc.) and find a good one for your aim.
