Why we use modified stern-volmer equation?

The modified stern-volmer equation involves the assumption that free and total drug concentration are equivalent. Recently, a slightly modified equation to overcome this simplification has been proposed (ppr attached). Then why in maximum research article, simplified modified stern-volmer equation has been used? How much the assumption (free and total drug concentration are equivalent) is valid? which equation should we preferred?
