A new batch of 1x TBE buffer was prepared and I was testing it out (result is attached). I am wondering why half the gel is lighting up orange, as I have never seen this before. I have not changed how much EtBr is used to make the gel, but I'm wondering if the molar amounts of the compounds used to prepare the TBE buffer could have caused this at all.
Any thoughts as to why the gel itself is fluorescing so much would be helpful!
May be mistakenly you have added higher amount of EtBr in the agarose gel. As it is +ve charged it runs in opposite direction to DNA. That's why you are seeing half the gel is still stained. When it intercalates DNA the intensity increases many fold.

Apparently, residual EtBr fluoresces. Usually, it happens when a small amount of EtBr remains in a gel after electrophoresis. Clear marker is a half of the gel without orange hue: ethidium has already run from that part.
Hello, I think you not wash away properly the Ethidium bromide from gel which cause this fluorescence.
