One paper named mentioned that:Mouse RBC have a halflife of 38 to 52 d, which is shorter than that in humans and other veterinary species, but I don't know the reason, could you please explain it? Subhash C. Juneja
I think that the reason is the higher metabolic rate of smaller species. The underlying physical reason is the larger body surface to body volume ratio for smaller species as compared to species with larger body volume. Smaller species require more energy to maintain their body temperatures. Hence, their heart rates are faster and they need to consume more energy. This might explain the short life time of mouse erythrocytes.
The life span of the erythrocytes was found to be in the mouse 40 - 50 days. See https://ashpublications.org/blood/article/13/8/789/33568/The-Life-Span-of-Red-Cells-in-the-Rat-and-the
