I am working on microalgae I am finding difficulty in maintaining the cultures. After 20 days microalgal cultures are turning brown. I used antibiotics, garlic extracts but not working. I need a suggestions to overcome this challenge.
Here, what my suggestion is, Focus on the final concentration of antibiotics. If multiple antibiotics, you can study about that particular strain is resistant to these kinds of antibiotics or not.
Provide more informations, which specie you are cultivating?
What is the cultivation system?
Which is the growth media?
Giovanni Luca Russo I'm using Chu 10 media for Scenedesmus spp, Chlorella spp, Chlorococcum spp and Desmococcus spp and I'm cultivating in laboratory in culture flasks
Chlorella grows very well in Kuhl media, or bold basal medium.
I would check the PAR irradiance, maybe you are cultivating with high light irradiance.
Also, if u need an antibiotic for the cultivation try with Amoxicillin.
Divya Devale Probably your broth media is deprived of Nitrogen. consider transferring the culture into fresh media every 15 days. For Chlorella, I suggest you to use 3N BBM media.
