Why does storage of fixed cell samples at 37C cause cells to uplift?

I kept adherent cells at 37C vs 4C after formalin fixation and over a few days, the cells uplifted at 37C but remained attached to the plate at 4C. I can't find any mechanisms or literature to support this finding, does anyone know why?
