Also, every gene forms a different sized mRNA, so the mRNA will be present in different bands all over the lane in the gel but you cannot see it.
Did you mean "distinct" or "distant"? If you see a fuzzy trail this means your RNA has degraded. What is the source and how do you extract it? I would revise the protocol if it degrades again.
