I modeled a concrete deck slab on top of steel girders in ANSYS APDL
but my results for the bending stress (X component stress) from ANSYS do not match what I obtained from hand calculations Using Mc / I
using Mc / I i obtained 29 MPa
and from ANSYS i got 10 MPa
i attached below my calculation as well as my model and elements used.
i used MPC184 rigid link to connect between the concrete deck slab shell element and top flange steel girder.
the slab is simply supported (roller and pin)
any idea what might be wrong?
check the properties of the rigid link connecting the deck and the girder.
In the hand calculation, the assumption is full integration between the girder and the deck; however, the link member assumes not full integration.
try to remove the rigid link, or increase it stiffness

as far as I know (I might be wrong), MPC184 rigid link/beam in ANSYS doesnot take any material as itself is a rigid link and has high stiffness.
i tried to give it concrete and steel properties and the stress didnot change

You can try contact element with rigid properties as discussed in the following
As stated, you have to define a proper contact between the steel section and concrete. In APDL (3-D model) you have to define either contact elements (CONTA174 & TARG170) or interface elements (inter205) with a proper type of contact (bonded). Also if you are modeling concrete using SOLID65 legacy element then there will be high probability of solution non convergence if cracking and crushing are activated. Also this element is highly sensitive to the mesh size used, you can deactivate cracking and crushing of the element by setting them values of (-1) and then solve just to see if this is the reason behind non convergence. In general it's tricky to get SOLID65 element to converge with both cracking and crushing activated, the load (displacement controlled) should be applied at a very slow rate with a fine mesh. You can try the newly developed Microplane element using SOLID185 with damage elasticity/plasticity or with CPT215 coupled damage plasticity.

Actually, I am not using any SOLID elements.
the concrete slab does not have any steel embedded into it
there is a steel girder below it
the nodes from the shell181 slab element is connected to nodes from beam188 girder steel element using MPC184 node-to-node connection.
Shall I still use CONTA174 & TARG170 elements to connect slab and girder top flange along with MPC184?
I usually use the contact element, try both and compare the output,
I think the workbench is easier than APDL

but how can I decide which component (slab or the girder top flange) is target or contact?
