I understand that a hallmark of lupus is increased apoptosis leading to increased ingestion of these cell bodies via PS mediated recognition by APCs.

Why do these APCs then go on to display the self antigens on MHC II which then activates T helpers?? What prevents this from occurring during ingestion of apoptotic cells normally?
