I have a protocol for the transfection of HEK293 cells that use MEM medium but I am using HEK293T cells. I am growing the HEK293T cells in MEM currently and they are doing all right, but I wonder if I should switch to DMEM because it is their intended medium.

HEK293-T cells are transduced with the SV40 large T-antigen. It is different from HEK293 parental cells.

They are different cells indeed, we cultured HEK293T cells in DMEM, HEK293 in MEM-alpha according to the manufacturers instruction. Transfections for both cells were done in Opti-MEM. I have no idea if it really matters if you use DMEM or MEM though.

We have transfected HEK 293 cells growing in DMEM Low glucose supplemented with 2mM Glutamine and 10%FCS . Also, I think MEM with 2 mM L-glutamine and complemented with Earle's BSS (1.5 g/L Na-bicarbonate, 0.1 mM non-essential amino acids, 1.0 mM Na-pyruvate) + 10% FHS will do ; if you like to refer to special data of your or others lab, try to adapt their methods to yours for comparability
