Why are HEK293 cells grown in MEM but HEK293T cells are grown in DMEM?

I have a protocol for the transfection of HEK293 cells that use MEM medium but I am using HEK293T cells.  I am growing the HEK293T cells in MEM currently and they are doing all right, but I wonder...
