Every journal has different rules of writing style, bibliography style, figures presentation, number of references, number of figures and number of tables, number of pages limit etc. All this is to show a "finding". Can all journal editors meet and come to a common style. It will save a lot of time of researchers when they publish in different journal.

Well i think that those differences are made on purpose. To make the publishers (Elsevire, Springer, ect.) recognizable/different from other's.
But overall i agree that the search and changing of styles for different journals is hard (annoying)!
I would say even more. We do not need many journals. We need a unified platform to share the results. Just one journal of science, social science, arts and humanities. Worth reading: Davis, G. F. That will be ideal situation like we have one income tax form, all we fill the same whether we have low income or high income.
But catch will be that it will be a merge of multiple business (publishers) companies, that is less likely to happen unless there is big incentive from agencies like NIH.

Dear Subnash, you have also consider that all journlas have different impact factors and journals with high impact factors require shorter paper with majoroty of the data as supplement. This is one of the differences between requierement. However, now there are some journal which does not require reformation of the text: Plant Journal, for example, accept submission without any reformating for all of the paper which have been rejected from Nature, Science, etc.
Theoretically you are right, it will be easy to have united platform for biological sceince, chemical science etc. but it practice this is not possible because of different impacts..

Well, we also have different style expectations and comfortable inherited styles. This is a technical question today. You may use LaTeX [1] and apply the style provided by publisher easily. In case you prefer common word processing, use e.g. Mendeley [2] to manage reference styles.

My point is that every journal has put 30 pages instructions which waste a lot of time of people just to adhere to those instructions, just a common format will be helpful and will not waste time. Still each journal will have its own impact and having a common format.
I think that the large number of journals with different IF stimulate people/researchers that are working to do more and better, to give a lot of thought about their work (experimental sciences on first place) and to try harder. Also good and healthy competition is never wrong!
Each journal follows its own style by the organizers based on the journal so that it has its own mark which distinguishes it from other journals with taking into account the scientific value of research and the different specialties of researches

It's like the identity of a journal (like magazine).
Now a days i think many journals accept whatever format (plus references style) u gave them. They have a team to convert it to their respective format or style once it goes to the final stages.
For ease, better option is LaTex. If u prefer word then u can use reference management tools like "Mendeley", "End Note" and "Zotero".
