Many scientists are studying the mechanisms of memory. Memoirs (life experience) write a lot of people, including geniuses. From memoirs of geniuses I propose to read the memoirs of Bertrand Russell or Vladimir Nabokov. In the attachment there are two manuscript scientists who explain how neural networks function in the implementation of a complex memory function.
It seems to me that you are looking for scientists/theorists on autobiographical memory. For example: Williams, H. L., Conway, M. A., & Cohen, G. (2008). Autobiographical memory. In G. Cohen & M. A. Conway (Eds.), Memory in the Real World (3rd ed., pp. 21-90). Hove, UK: Psychology Press.
