I am working on the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles, before that I want to Phytochemical screening the particular plants, for analyzed the antibacterial compounds, which technique is suitable for for analysis, I mention the Thin layer chromatography (TLC) and Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques in my research proposal.
TLC is best one since it also quantify in contrast to preliminary screening.
TLC only get you an Rf data. Well, if you can isolate the compound from each spot, you can use NMR to determine the chemical structure. But generally phytochemical screening use either GC-MS or LC-MS
For preliminary screening of secondary constituents, you can use TLC and standardize a best solvent system, then you should try gcms for identification of components and quantification of area volume and structures.
