Hello Nadia, the answers from Dario, Mahesh and Ette are correct but always remember that apart from the user-friendliness and free availability for use, your choice of software also depends heavily on the nature of your data, the analysis you want to carry out (your objectives and goals) and the ability of the software to guide you through the interpretations of results obtained. I have never used R, but from what i have gathered so far, I think i will give it a try. SPSS version 20 (downloaded free) worked well for my multivariate statistics, for instance. Use what suits your data and objectives best. Cheers!

SPSS is certainly more user-friendly than R, but it still has a very long learning curve and is very expensive economically. I suggest you to download R from the official website: https://www.r-project.org

On the web you will find hundreds of communities where you can find basic information and specifics for the analyses you need to do

If you (and Maurice) are going to give R a try, I'll suggest a few, general, resources that I have found to be excellent help when learning R.

R has a ton more functionality than most people even know about, like GIS and spatial analysis capabilities.
