The multijunction based solar cells are the most efficient type of solar cells. As the single junction solar cell have an upper bound determined by Shockley–Queisser limit of about 33.7 percent. Multi junctions composed of materials having low, medium and large band gap can absorb a wider range of the incident solar radiation than the single junction solar cells.
All single junctions made of materials having a band gap of the maximum conversion deficiency of 1.35 eV achieved the highest realized efficiencies. But still single crystal silicon is dominating the solar cell materials because of many advantages of this miracle material.
In my opinion single crystal silicon thin film solar cells will dominate the solar cell production.
